Coastal Cruizer

When a cruising humpback whale comes this close to your kayak, besides the OMG awesomeness, you are thankful for the grace of wild things.  This one, well within bumping range, clearly knew we were there yet made no move to disrupt our precarious float.  Diane's boat, at 17 feet, is about one fourth the length of this whale.  Humpbacks are a threatened species, nice for us they don't carry grudges.

Shady Lunch Break

6x6 acrylic

Just returned from a spectacular kayak trip in the Bunsby Islands on the NW coast of Vancouver Island.  Whales (I'm talking eyeball to blow hole close encounters here - very thankful for the grace of wild things that don't hold grudges, Mr.Whiskers (aka SeaOtters) and Wolves represented the charismatic megafauna... oh, and this year's BABC delinquents.  So much to see, so little time!  A few generous rockfish, lingcod, cabezon and mackerel gave up their lives for us and we are grateful.  Weather was a perfect NW blend; a little mist, a little rain, a lotta sunshine :) and a stormy SEaster that sent us home happy.    Stay tuned, more paintings to come :)

Daddy's Boy

6x6 acrylic, see DPW for purchase information
This kid is the spitting image of his daddy.... and where do you think that saying came from anyway?  Actually it's not just the basic body type and color scheme... it's a lot about attitude.  That part is the most fun to try and capture in paint!

Of Time and Tides

Good news!  These three paintings were accepted into the 13th annual Maritime Art Exhibit at the Harbor History Museum.  Opening is Aug 4th, runs through Sept 2nd.  Too bad I'll be kayaking the NW corner of Vancouver Island collecting inspiration during the reception, but I have my priorities!

Pawns in the Game

7x5" acrylic, see DPW for purchase info.

These sea stacks, large rock outcroppings that have/are crumbling off the coastline, remind me of chess players.  It's fun to weave your way around them to see what secrets hide in their shadows..... and who will be the one to catch the Queen?  Endless playtime on the ocean beaches :)

Landscaping help, reasonably priced

The bunnies have called in reinforcements to complete some of the higher pruning tasks in my yard.  These big boys use very flexible tools and can reach apples up to 5 or 6 feet in height.  May be a little low on applesauce this year, so far I still have raspberries but I'm sure they'll get to tidying up that patch soon, lol.
