Outflow

8x6" acrylic, see DPW for sales information

Out on the north coast at Ozette for a couple of days.  You can always count on a backpacking trip to recharge both the soul and the inspiration file :)  This small seasonal creek cuts it's own way to the sea.

Puppy Love

6x6 acrylic SOLD

Painted this gesture study from an old photo, love that "vintage" feel and limited palette.  Nothing better than a little puppy lov'in.  :)

First Start

Went to the races last weekend. This is a first time starter... not at all sure what's happening, but happy to have that steady pony by his side.  For him, "also ran" is not a derogatory label, he'll have the game figured out better for next time.  :)

CowLick

Ever wonder where the term "cowlick" came from?  Well those strong tongues of theirs do make a mess of your hair!  Happy Solstice everyone :)

Dinner, aka "I Fish Therefore I Am"

7x5" acrylic
A personal favorite :)  Lingcod for dinner.  In honor of all my fisher friends, you know who you are.  I thought of each one of you while painting every stone and scale :)  We are indeed, what we eat, beautiful!

Next to Bloom

5x7" acrylic, see DPW for purchase information

My peonies are just blooming.  I'm watching them open up with the sunlight!  .... and I'm oh so not a flower painter!  Although I'm not unhappy with this in the end, I wiped it out about 3 times before I got there.  Time to switch gears on approach and maybe go to oil for a little easier job blending.... gotta love a job that never gets boring :)

Edge of the Sea

No "June gloom" today!  Marjorie enjoying sunshine on the beach.  Appropriate for her, looking off into that vast unknown, just about ready to step into it.  Yeah, I admit it, I love that cheeky little butt!

O'Donnell

6x6" acrylic, see DPW for purchase information

I've painted "OD" a few times and I think this one looks most like him.  He's an Irish Draught stallion and a cool dude.

6x6" acrylic, see DPW for purchase information
We often see these colorful harlequin ducks on our kayak expeditions.  They are pretty shy though and easily spooked.  Sometimes if you just sit quietly, bobbing along on the breeze, you can get pretty close... try that in a power boat!  These two are all dressed up in their tuxes just waiting for the girls to start the dancing.

What's an Artbyte?

I just published a new Artbyte at DailyPaintWorks!   "An ArtByte is a bite-sized, affordable art tutorial. They are online, immediately available, and cover everything from techniques, materials, demos, marketing, technology and creativity.  Some ArtBytes are free and others range in price from $5-30 each."
My Artbyte is about the Artist in Residence program in the National Parks and it's FREE!  It's intended to make you aware of this incredible creative opportunity in our parks.  It explains how to find and apply for an AIR position and it tells you a bit about my own experiences, with plenty of images!
Click on the Artbyte widget on the right sidebar to go to DPW then click on "Art Tutorials".... I hope you enjoy it, let me know what you think!

A good year for wisteria :)

Blue Iris

6x6, oil on hardboard, see DPW for purchase info.

These iris bloom with exuberance at the beach house, happily naturalized with a kiss of salt spray.  I like the more textural brush strokes using oil paint on this one.

Spring Break

Ok, I admit it, I love the title of this one.... good things come to those who run :)  It was nice to work with oil for a change and with an entirely different subject. (it just plopped itself down there, what else could I do?)  Oil and acrylic are so different to work with, I am caught in a love/hate relationship with both....  Demanding teachers mean there's never a dull moment for painterly studies, that part is good.
